It is our sincere hope that this website will be a beneficial resource to help you along your  path, and lead you in the direction of natural alternatives and natural healing in your life.

Why Natural Remedies?

~ It Just Feels Better ~

Natural remedies, home remedies, and natural cures are quickly becoming more and more popular due to the fact that people simply do not want to be continually medicated with prescription drugs for the rest of their lives. Home natural remedies are very appealing because of their very nature: they are simple, no worrying about side effects, and they are much less expensive. Plus it just feels better, both mentally and physically, to stay healthy the natural, home remedy way!

~ Your Health ~

You can't put a price tag on your health. But with that being said, you don't have to spend a fortune to stay healthy. Using common sense and always reading the labels of the products that you purchase will keep you one step ahead of the game. If you make a conscious decision to make wellness a number one priority, you will find that it feels better to be in control of your own body, rather than your body being in control of you. A healthy lifestyle is a choice that only you can make for yourself. And natural home remedies are an important part of that lifestyle.

~ Take a Look Around Your House ~

To begin your discovery of natural alternative home remedies, you'll find a lot of what you need right at home in your very own kitchen. Simply by looking through your kitchen cabinets you may find most or all of the things you would possibly need to aid in the healing of many common ailments. All at very little expense to you. Just do some good old-fashioned research and you will learn the healing properties of many herbs and spices... and foods. Many of which you may already have in your home.

In this day and age, many people are turning to natural herbal medicines for healing different health problems, and staying healthy by getting the proper vitamins. In addition, eating properly, maintaining an active lifestyle and participating in activities such as yoga can add many years to your life. An excellent resource if you would like to learn more about yoga is Yoga Journal.

Home natural remedies come in various forms including everything from roots, flowers, branches, bark and fruits. Herbology is believed to be the oldest form of health care in the history of mankind.

Natural herbal remedies are very beneficial not only to heal the sickness, but also to treat the root cause of the disease. Even chronic diseases can be treated with herbal therapies, including gastrointestinal problems and respiratory issues. Herbs can also be used to strengthen the immune system, thereby making your body stronger and aiding in recovery.

Herbal natural home remedies are given to treat pain, neurological disorders, stress-related problems, sexual dysfunction, heart issues, allergies, and much more. In many cases, they are used in place of traditional antibiotics or anti-inflammatory drugs.

In addition, natural herbal remedies are much less likely to have side effects like many of today's pharmaceutical medicines. In fact, more and more people these days are choosing herbal therapies instead of treatments such as chemotherapy or antibotics, simply because they stengthen rather than weaken the body.

For Kidney Stones Natural is Better
If you're tired of drinking tons of water to pass your kidney stones, or worse yet, taking medications or invasive treatments, it's time to consider what nature has to offer. Natural remedies for kidney stones are an equally good option, if not better!

Unfortunately, you don't find a lot of medical doctors offering natural options for kidney stones, such as improving your health with diet and exercise, however, sometimes that is all it takes to painlessly pass a kidney stone...and keep them from coming back!

Some natural steps you can take include avoiding spicy foods, drinking plenty of distilled or filtered water, avoiding caffeine, and eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, as the fiber content will help move things through your body. Things such as asparagus, parsley, and wheatgrass are very beneficial, as well as plenty of regular exercise. Also, to painlessly dissolve your kidney stones, incorporate beverages with phosphoric acid into your diet.

When it comes to kidney stones, a natural healthy diet and exercise beat medication and surgery any day!

For Acne Try a Simple Colon Cleanse
The skin is the biggest organ in the body. Or should I say on the body. The skin aids the other organs in the body, helping them eliminate waste. Therefore, one of the best acne treatments could simply be a change of diet. As they say, unhealthy inside equals unhealthy outside.

We develop acne when the naturally occuring oils in the skin build up and clog the pores. Acne is usually most common at puberty, during the time of high hormone production. Pregnant women can also be affected.

Many treatment options are available for acne, but it seems that one size doesn't fit all, so to speak. For some, simple diet changes may be all that is needed. For others, the problem may be much more serious.

If you are changing your diet, fiber rich foods including fresh fruits and vegetables are always a good start, as these help to clear out the digestive system.

A dirty colon can mean dirty skin. And certain undigested foods and mucous can build up over the years. That's why a good colon cleansing could be necessary.

Avoidance of certain things including caffeine, fried foods, sugar, processed foods, and some dairy and meat products are a good way to create a clean, happy colon.

Remember, clean inside can mean clean outside...leading to clearer, healthier skin.

Natural Alternatives for a Urinary Tract Infection - UTI
Before attempting natural remedies for a urinary tract infection, you should weigh all of the alternatives, because if a UTI is not properly treated, the infection could spread to the kidneys.  With that being said, let's investigate some natural alternatives for urinary tract infection.

Cranberries: Cranberry juice has been commonly used as a home remedy to treat, and more importantly, prevent a urinary tract infection. There seem to be things called proanthocyanins in cranberries that aid in the prevention of the harmful bacteria clinging to the walls of the urinary tract. Cranberry tablets and cranberry juice have both been shown to be effective in the prevention and treatment of UTIs. However, the juice should be pure cranberry juice without any sweeteners or additives.

Uva Ursi: Uva ursi is an herb that has been frequently used as a remedy for urinary tract infections. Uva ursi contains tannins as well as arbutin, which seems to have antiseptic properties. People who have kidney disease or liver disease should not take uva ursi. It should also be avoided by children as well as women who are pregnant or nursing.

Uva ursi should not be taken in large amounts. Side effects have included green or brown colored urine, ringing of the ears, indigestion, and nausea.

Why Is Water So Important?
Why is the water we drink so important? Well, a human being can go on for quite a few days without food, but no man or woman will survive for longer than 3 to 5 days without water. Chronic dehydration is a very common thing, and it very well may be the root cause of a lot of today's illnesses and diseases.

Water exists as about 80% of an infant's weight, and about 70% of an adult's weight. With these percentages, you can see how important water is to the human body, and why it is so important for that water to be free of contaminants.

It seems that as we grow older, we tend to drink less water. And as a result, many ailments develop later in life. It could be that making a simple change in your life, like eliminating soda pop and replacing it with pure water might just lead to a healthier, longer life. And most importantly, a better QUALITY of life.

If that's not enough to convince you, here are more reasons why pure water is so important to humans:

- Every cell in the body consists mainly of water
- Water flushes the kidneys, and helps eliminate toxins
- Water is the key element in sweat, tears, and saliva
- H2O is the major part of the blood and lymph systems, carrying food and oxygen to the cells and flushing waste from the body
- Water helps moisten the mouth, the nasal passages, and the eyes
- It helps to regulate the temperature in the body - Water lubricates the joints in the body, so you can move more freely, without pain

Let's face it, our good health depends on good quality water.

Acid Reflux Disease – The Causes

You might think Acid Reflux, or Heartburn can only be cured by a doctor. But, just like many other health issues, it’s always a good idea to check into natural remedies and alternatives first. While Acid Reflux is not caused by any one single issue, a malfunction of a certain band of muscle tissue referred to as the Lower Esophageal Sphincter, or L.E.S., can possibly lead to many of the problems and symptoms associated with the condition.

The Lower Esophageal Sphincter is responsible for the opening and closing of the lower end of the esophagus when a person swallows. Normally the L.E.S. keeps the stomach from regurgitating, but because of certain physical conditions it can weaken and lose contraction control. When this happens, the Lower Esophageal Sphincter may fail to close up and as a result it can’t maintain the pressure barrier between esophagus and stomach. This is when acid from the stomach can back up, causing heartburn in the esophagus.

Here are some of the most common causes of Acid Reflux:

  • Eating large meals
  • Stress
  • Elevated hormone levels while pregnant
  • Smoking
  • Drinking alcohol
  • Anti-depressants
  • Eating fried and/or fatty foods
  • Eating before going to bed
  • Drinking carbonated beverages

Healthy Vegetable and Pasta Explosion Recipe
In my never ending desire to share heathy recipes, here is an amazing dish that we enjoyed last evening. It is an explosion of vegetables, many of which were grown in our garden. There is nothing quite like fresh vegetables from your own garden. I highly recommend converting your environment into an area where you can grow your own food. Preferably without the use of pesticides. Organic is best!

Healthy Vegetable & Pasta Explosion

Boil 8oz whole wheat rigatoni al dente'

Prep Primavera:
1/2 Vidalia onion, thinly sliced
2 large cloves of garlic minced
1 or 2 carrots, julliened
1 rib of celery diagonally cut
1 cup green & yellow beans, french cut or diagonal
1/2 cup sweet peas, coarsely chopped
1 cup of beet greens bunched and thinly sliced

Begin to sautee onions & garlic in 2 or 3 tbsp of Extra virgin olive oil.
Add all of the vegetables except the beet greens (add them when the veggie mixture is tender)
Drain pasta
Add 2 or 3 tbsp of rosemary pesto or basil pesto to the pasta and mix thoroughly
Layer the pasta and vegetables into a serving dish, then top with 1/2 cup of roasted walnut pieces, fresh basil leaves, and parmesan cheese

Enjoy!

Natural Health Recipe
Natural health and healing begins with the food that we put into our bodies. Natural remedies and treatments are much more likely to be effective if we have effectively prepared our bodies with the proper nutrients. With that being said, I just wanted to share a recipe for a salad that I had last evening. It was one of the most delicious salads I have ever eaten, and most of the ingredients came directly from our garden. Best of all, I felt like I was putting something really good into my body.

Light and Healthy Summer Salad

Preparation - Mix and place the following in center of salad (after salad is mixed):
- 1/4 cup roasted walnuts
- 1/4 cup of Craisins or raisins
- 1 tsp minced rosemary
- 1 tsp minced oregano

Then coarsely chop 1 or 2 heads of green leaf lettuce
Add 1 large carrot (create strips by using a vegetable peeler then coarsely chop)
Add 1/8 cup of coarsely chopped fresh basil leaves
Add 1 tbsp of thinly sliced parmesan cheese

Dressing:
Mix 2 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil and 1 tbsp of balsamic vinegar (whisk together and pour on salad)

Enjoy!
