Ringing Ears - Tinnitus Treatments (this page under construction)

Ringing Ears or Tinnitus (sometimes spelled Tinnitis or Tinitus) refers to a ringing in the ears, or the hearing of noises in the ears when there is no outside source for the sounds. While many people describe "ringing ears", other sounds that people may experience can include humming, hissing, blowing, roaring, sizzling, or whistling noises.
Almost everyone experiences a mild form of Tinnitus from time to time, usually only lasting brief periods. However, many people experience constant or recurring Tinnitus, and this can lead to more serious problems including difficulty concentrating or the inability to sleep.
Although the exact cause of Tinnitus is not known, possible factors may include a build up of wax in the ears, ear infections, or damage to the ears due to loud noises. In many cases, the taking of certain drugs may lead to ear noises. Therefore, some of the steps that can be taken to relieve Tinnitus include the avoidance of caffeine, alcohol, and smoking.
While many medicines have been used to treat Tinnitus in the past as well as today, there is no magic drug that will work for everyone. However, many people have had much success with alternative natural therapies for tinnitus including acupuncture, hypnosis, and craniosacral therapy to name a few. Herbal supplements and vitamins can also be helpful, especially those that include magnesium, zinc, ginkgo biloba, melatonin, or B vitamins.
Of course, prevention is usually the best cure and people can do this by using ear protection wherever ear damage is possible such as loud concerts, construction areas with jackhammers, etc.
